Respite Care

Respite Care

Temcare has responded to the care needs of children for over forty years. Currently, we have a range of volunteers from Metropolitan Melbourne and Country Victoria who take children into their homes for usually a weekend on a regular basis. This provides a needed break to many families in the community while offering children a loving and caring environment.

Who are the children

Temcare provides short term care for children aged 0-15 years. Usually from difficult family circumstances, children are referred to Temcare from various sources and are placed with couples, singles or families. Wherever possible and appropriate, Temcare will place sibling groups together. In the 2008-2009 financial year, Temcare organised over 230 placements for children.

Who are the volunteers

All Temcare caregivers are interviewed and assessed. They undertake a Working With Children Check and character checks and are given ongoing training and support (peer mentors are also required to undertake a Police Check). With larger requests for respite care now than ever before, caregivers have an important part to play in the well-being of many families in the community.

Becoming a Respite Carer

As a Christian-based organisation, Temcare is seeking Christians who are willing and able to serve in this way. A social worker is more than happy to discuss this with you further and can be contacted on (03) 9852 9795. Alternatively, an expression of interest can be lodged by clicking here. Every child is important and every carer who opens their heart and home is an important member of the Temcare team.

But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God." Mk 10:14
